Over time, Chrome stores information such as your browsing history, cookies, and cached files. This can help websites load faster, but it can also lead to problems like pages not displaying correctly or old content appearing. Clearing your browser data can often resolve these issues.

Steps to Clear Browsing Data

1. Open Chrome

Make sure Google Chrome is open on your computer.

2. Open the Clear Browsing Data Menu

You can do this in two ways:

  • Shortcut method:

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete on Windows or Command + Shift + Delete on Mac.
This will open the Clear Browsing Data window directly.

  • Manual method:

    1. Click the three dots in the top-right corner of Chrome.

    2. Choose Settings.

    3. Click Privacy and security on the left.

    4. Select Clear browsing data.

3. Choose What to Remove

In the pop-up window:

  • Time range: Choose All time if you want to clear everything.

  • Data types: Tick the boxes for the data you’d like to delete. The most commonly cleared items are:

    • Browsing history

    • Cookies and other site data

    • Cached images and files

You can also choose to remove saved passwords and autofill data if needed.

4. Confirm

Click Clear data. Depending on how much data you have, this might take a few moments.

Clearing Data for a Specific Website

If you're only having trouble with one site:

  1. Go to the site in Chrome.

  2. Click the padlock icon next to the web address.

  3. Select Site settings.

  4. Click Clear data or Reset permissions.

Additional Notes

  • Clearing cookies will sign you out of most websites.

  • If you're signed into Chrome with a Google account, some data may sync back unless you also clear it from your Google account.

  • This process is safe and won’t remove your bookmarks or saved files.
